The weather today was absolutely amazing! I don't think I could have ordered a more beautiful day. Unfortunately, I was in my home office working on some listings, updating my website...and of course writing for my new community BLOG! There are two more days left in spring break, so at lunch I told the girls I would take a break and we would go to the Greenway. They LOVE the Greenway, and it is FREE FUN for us all!
The Murfreesboro Greenway System follows the banks of the Stones River and starts on Thompson Lane going 4.5 miles and ending at Cannonsburgh Pioneer Village off of Broad Street. There are several points of entry along the Greenway, which also connects to the Stones River Civil War Battlefield where you will find additional trails. If you haven't been to the Greenway, I highly recommend it! It is the perfect place to walk, bike, run, inline skate, ride a scooter, enjoy a picnic, fishing in the Stones Rivers, or even take your dog out for exercise in the newly opened Bark Park! My girl's love to go to the huge kid's
castle playground located on Old Fort Parkway, which is also an entry to the Greenway Trail. However, if you have smaller children and the Kid's Castle is a bit overwhelming, try the small playground off of Manson Pike that has a soft rubberized landing pad! This entry point also has a large covered picnic pavilion with restrooms that can be reserved for special parties or events.
We passed several people fishing today along the river. I'm not sure if they were catching anything, but they all seemed to be very relaxed and enjoying being out in the beautiful sunshine. Our mission today was to walk to the
waterfall and dip our feet in the water. We accomplished our mission and got some enjoyable exercise in during the process. Families were out in large numbers today biking the Greenway together. I suppose there were a few other moms in Murfreesboro today that were trying to spend a little quality time with their children before school starts back on Monday!
We had such a nice time being outside together and commenting on all the different dogs that we passed, the cute babies we saw, and how unique and pretty all the budding trees and wildflowers were along the trail.
It is amazing how much joy we can get from things that are completely FREE! My girls told me thank you several times and said they had so much fun. Our fun break was over way too soon and I had to get back to work. However, after taking a little time out just to spend with my girls they were much more willing to tag along with me to do some unfun errands. They didn't even complain when I had to drive across town to retrieve a for sale sign and remove a lock box from a sold home. The Greenway is an excellent opportunity to help educate your children on nature, safety, and even exercise. Take some time out of your hectic day to visit the Greenway. I can't think of a better way to spend a time!
